Disclaimer: I am not a doctor. My only expertise comes from the experience of finding my way through the maze known as Narcissistic Personality Disorder in dealing with my sister-in-law, Koreen. While I do consider myself a bit of an expert by now, I recommend that you rely on the doctors and specialists that I often cite throughout my blog for your own personal research. All names have been changed to protect the privacy of everyone involved. My intention is not to harm or embarrass anyone, but to write the truth as I have experienced it.
This blog is about the experience I have had in discovering narcissistic personality disorder through my relationship with my sister-in-law. A journey that began more than 10 years ago has changed our
family in some very sad ways. I feel
like events that have taken place have affected me deeply enough that I need to
sort things out in my mind. I’ve decided that the best therapy for me
would be to write about Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) as I have
experienced it. As long as I’m writing it down, I thought maybe someone else
could find some answers, validation, hope, resolve or at least understanding
about what they are going through in their own life.
Keep in mind that my sister-in-law has not been diagnosed
with NPD. Most people with NPD are never diagnosed because they rarely believe
anything is wrong with them and therefore they don’t seek treatment. Much of
what is known about NPD comes from what has been observed by mental health
professionals and those who live closely with individuals who suffer from NPD. My
observations of Koreen and the hours and hours of research I have done lead me
to believe that she does indeed suffer from NPD.
